Immerse yourself in the artistry, history, and power of Black comics at CAAMCon 2024, CAAM’s second annual festival of Black comics. Join us for family activities, a marketplace of Black-owned comic vendors, panels with some of the top creatives in the field, food trucks, and more!

Roxane Gay on Black Panther: World of Wakanda
Join New York Times best-selling author Roxane Gay as she discusses her groundbreaking Marvel comic series, Black Panther: World of Wakanda. A Wakandan love story—its tenderness matched only by its brutality—this comic series is Marvel’s first written by a Black woman. Gay’s narrative asks: What happens when your nation needs your heart and mind, but you have already given them to someone else? Join Gay as she delves into the world of Wakanda and talks about her transition to writing comics.

Zine Workshop: Black Superheroes!
Create a zine with educators from Able ARTS Work—a nonprofit offering opportunities in the creative arts for people of all abilities. Create your very own Black superhero zine!

2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
In Conversation: Shawnee Gibbs, Shawnelle Gibbs, Eric Dean Stanton, and TJ Sterling
Former Marvel comics artist and RAE Comics imprint owner, TJ Sterling, leads this conversation highlighting unique experiences in Black comics. Together with The Gibbs Sisters and Eric Dean Stanton, Sterling will discuss past wins and losses, as well as suggestions for people looking to get involved in the world of Black comic writing. Shawnee Gibbs and Shawnelle Gibbs are recognized for their work as writers for Cartoon Network, Warner Bros. Animation, Dreamworks Animation, Mattel Studios, and Marvel Comics​. Director, producer, and graphic novelist Eric Dean Seaton is known for Superman and Lois, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and The Flash.
