The Arroyo Arts Collective Presents Rubbish Remix at the Pop Hop Books&Print
A new exhibition of artworks made from 70% or more reused materials will open on October 26 with a Make-Your-Own-Monster workshop.
Rubbish Remix, a vibrant celebration of creativity and sustainability, will showcase artworks created using at least 70% reused materials. Organized by the Arroyo Arts Collective (AAC) and curated by AAC members Shirley Huang and Christina Ng, the exhibition is on view from October 24 to November 10, 2024 at The Pop-Hop Books & Print, located at 5002 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90042.
The opening reception is October 26th from 4 to 6 p.m. It includes a hands-on workshop where attendees can craft their own monsters from repurposed materials, just in time for Halloween. All events are free and open to the public.
Rubbish Remix features over thirty Los Angeles-based artists. The work represents diverse styles, techniques and media including oil pastel on hubcap, recycled fabric on wood flooring, coral and beads with Styrofoam and assemblage with found objects. The collection includes wall-mounted pieces, freestanding sculptures and a window installation filtering the shop’s normal view of York Boulevard through a colorful array of repurposed objects.
“This show encourages our members to transform discarded items into imaginative creations, demonstrating the beauty and potential of what others might consider trash,” said Heather Hoggan, AAC Program Coordinator. “By displaying these works at The Pop-Hop, we hope to engage the broader community in conversations about thoughtful reuse.”
The exhibition is supported in part by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the LA County Department of Arts and Culture as part of Creative Recovery LA, an initiative funded by the American Rescue Plan and the California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program (administered by CalOSBA).
Join us at the opening reception to experience these eclectic works firsthand and meet the artists behind them.
