Flow N’ Hue: Movement and Art Therapy Workshop

Flow N’ Hue: Movement and Art Therapy Workshop

Workshop Description: Flow N’ Hue is a unique, movement-based workshop designed to help you tap into your inner flow using both your body and artistic expression. Throughout the workshop, you will explore movement, creativity, and self-expression, culminating in a finished art piece that reflects your personal journey.
We will be working with watercolor paints and other artistic materials, so please wear clothing you don’t mind getting paint on. If your hair is down, keep in mind that some paint may find its way into it as well. Along with your artistic creations, you'll also receive a journal and pencil for reflective moments and further exploration.
This workshop is all about reconnecting with your inner child, freeing yourself through movement and creativity, and fostering a sense of flow in both your body and mind. By the end, you'll feel more aligned with your body's natural rhythm, which can help you regulate your nervous system and find a deeper sense of calm and balance.
In addition to the workshop, we will provide herbal tea, plant-based snacks, salad, bread, and pastries to nourish your body during this creative journey.

This is a transformational workshop where you can use art as a tool for emotional release and self-discovery. The class is taught by Shalandrea Renee Houchen, a LA-born, NYC-raised performative artist dedicated to creating spaces for others to explore and express their emotions through movement and art.

Shalandrea’s approach to art therapy emphasizes the healing powers of creativity. As a teaching artist with experience working with over 1,000 youth in Los Angeles and New York City, she understands the importance of wellness and self-care in the creative process.

Run of Show:
6:00 - 6:30 PM | Integration into the Space:
We invite participants to arrive between 6:00 and 6:30 PM to settle into the space, connect with others, and begin preparing mentally and physically for the experience ahead. This time is vital for grounding yourself before we dive into the creative and movement process.

6:30 PM | Workshop Begins Promptly:
At 6:30 PM, we will begin the Flow N' Hue workshop. It is essential to arrive on time, as this is a process-based workshop where each part builds upon the previous one to make sense of the final art piece. Being present from the start allows you to fully engage with the flow and energy of the session.

Workshop Structure:

Part 1: Grounding & Movement
Using music and rhythms, we’ll start with movement exercises that help you tap into your body’s natural flow. This phase helps release tension and prepares you for creative expression.

Part 2: Expressive Painting
Using your hands and feet, you’ll paint while in motion, letting the music guide your strokes. The movement, combined with the sensory experience of working with the paint, is designed to help you channel your emotions into your artwork.

Part 3: Reflection & Integration
In this final phase, we slow down, taking time to reflect on the art we’ve created and our emotional journey through movement and paint. Participants will also have a chance to journal and share their experiences with the group.

This carefully designed flow helps to create a transformative experience, where art, movement, and emotion come together. We encourage everyone to fully immerse themselves in the process and leave with a deeper connection to their creativity and inner self.
